Happy Thursday!
Wow, this week is really flying by! Speaking of flying, this past weekend I completed two tutorials by Penny Rose Fabrics for Traditional Block Thursday, Flying Geese and Dutchman’s Puzzle. I had some previous experience making Flying Geese with my Sunburst Blocks, so these were a breeze to make. I had so much fun going through my reproduction fabrics since these blocks allowed me to be more scrappy in my selections. Both blocks utilize Flying Geese, but based on the color and orientation of the geese, you can capture a whole new look and feel.
Flying Geese – I was able to utilize scraps from previous blocks to help unify the quilt once it’s all put together!
Dutchman’s Puzzle – Love the details in the fabric!
Can’t wait to see what’s next 😀 Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
Nice. I like your Dutchman’s
puzzle.

Thank you for writing this post. It has made me realise that I don’t make anywhere near enough flying geese. Your versions are lovely 🙂

Hurray!! I really enjoy making them. I especially love sewing the half square triangles together that are left from the trimmings. Will make for an interesting scrappy quilt as I build the stash.

I don’t do scraps so I like the method that uses two squares best. Your method works well for you so stick with it 🙂

I use the two squares too for flying geese, but after trimming my 1/4″ seam, I save those scraps and make new scrappy squares 🙂

No, I don’t do squares on the corners. I use the Eleanor Burns method. You can see them in the tutorial called “Flying Geese made easy” at Missouriquiltco.com. Sorry for the confusion.
