Christmas FFOs

I recently finished a quirky Christmas design by Lindy Stitches from her series Christmas Down Under. I stitched up the Kiwi bird as a gift for my husband’s friend who dreamt he was a kiwi bird. Such a cute coincidence, I just had to offer up some of my time to stitch it up. I decided a flat fold was the best choice for the recipient to enjoy the gift during the holidays, then store it flat or have it out on display year round. I used the Twisted Stitcher’s flatfold tutorial with some minor adjustments, and I loved how it turned out!

I was truly inspired to finish more of my cross stitch this year. With my day off for the holidays, I decided to FFO a couple of my Noah’s Christmas Ark finishes. I already have 2 from the series on my tree and with these FFO’d, that makes 4 complete. The giraffes were stitched in 2019 (I didn’t realize that much time had passed!) and the doves were stitched in 2021. They are finished similarly to the chart’s cover picture, but with a more natural jute twine and darker red bells. I’m currently stitching the bees…maybe that will be on the tree next year!

I’ll definitely need a bigger tree to fit the rest of the designs. Are you enjoying your own cross stitch ornaments on the tree? I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year!

SAL Update 12.11.22 | Scarlet Quince

It’s time for another SAL update and happy to report I gifted that Christmas Kiwi stitch and it was very much loved! I will share a post on that FFO soon. For now, let’s see what progress I made on my full coverage Scarlet Quince piece.

Here’s where I was last time:

After 771 stitches, at 30.5% complete, this is where I’m at now. Lots of background fill in and a tiny bit added to the leaf.

We post an update on our own project every three weeks and encourage each other to make more progress and stay motivated. I’m looking forward to seeing how the rest of the SAL group has progressed with their projects this time around. Read along with me by clicking the blog links below:

SAL Update 11.20.22 | Gift Stitching

No new progress on my full coverage piece this round. In the past three weeks, I’ve celebrated my birthday, ventured to the Houston International Quilt Festival, and started a new cross stitch project in hopes of finishing up and gifting before Christmas.

This is where I’m at with my new start. Its one design from a series of 5 called December Down Under by Lindy Stitches. I’m stitching up the Kiwi Bird design for my husband’s friend who had a dream he was a kiwi bird. It should make for a funny gift!

Do you see that lovely Shaker Basket? That was a birthday gift to me from my aunt and I’m loving that it holds my sewing notions and threads for this project. Another birthday gift that I received was this stunning quilt from my mom. It was a block of the month that she had been working on since February! I can’t believe she kept this well hid little secret from me for so long ❤ I love the colors, the design, and all the kitties on the quilt!

And here’s some more family pics from one of our days at quilt festival:

Hopefully more progress on Scarlet Quince for the next round. Until then, I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!
