My goal this round was to work on some of the background, but before diving into that I decided to finish off those parked threads below. I tried the method for a good while and decided it wasn’t for me. I’m happy I gave it a try and that I understand the method. It will definitely still come in handy for specific scenarios, but for now I’m enjoying color completing the section I’m working in or alternating the color when I complete a length of thread.
Here’s where I was last time:
And here’s where I am now. Only 298 stitches complete. Halloween stitching has definitely been calling my name this month:
We post an update on our own project every three weeks and encourage each other to make more progress and stay motivated. I’m looking forward to seeing how the rest of the SAL group has progressed with their projects this time around. Read along with me by clicking the blog links below:

Such subtle shadow changes and you make it look so easy. Beautiful piece and anxious to see this grow

Thanks Sharon! Yes very subtle shadow changes – there’s about 6 different shades in the light background stitching there.

I couldn’t get away with the parking method either and prefer to finish the piece of thread if possible.

I feel more accomplished that way for sure!

I’ve never understood the parking method, so hats off to you for trying it out. I much prefer just doing a thread at a time. You must have the patience of a saint to do all that subtle shading , it’s stunning 🙂

Thanks so much! I have an app that helps me keep track and a good envelope storage system for the colors. I’ll have to share that in my next update!

I am not a fan of parking my floss either. I think my method is probably more time consuming, but I prefer it. I think this piece is so pretty.

Thanks Cathie! I think I’ve definitely tried all methods on this piece as it’s my oldest project too!

Like you and others I think the parking method is not for me. I sometimes will park the odd thread but mostly I like to finish a thread and then change to another shade and do that. Progress maybe a little slower but I am less likely to get mixed up this way.
