SAL Update 1.13

I’m pulling out my UFO (unfinished-object) for the SAL! This has now turned into my oldest WIP. The pattern is called Passion Flowers and Hummingbirds by Martin Johnson Heade, charted by Scarlet Quince. I started back in 2012 and stitched strong for about a year. You can see I made great progress early on. I completed 3 pages and made a start on the 4th page, which is where I started back this week.

There are 79 colors and they are mostly blends. Meaning I’m using 1 strand of floss from two different colors on the needle. Most of the colors are shades of green. As you can see the effect is like a painting when you are done stitching. Luckily, Scarlet Quince came out with an app in 2017. The app is amazing! All the charts you buy are available in the app. The app allows you to highlight a symbol that you’re stitching, which saves so much time. You can also color complete a symbol by either clicking the one square, or by 10×10 block, or by page. You can also “mark” symbols in a different color, which I use to designate my parked threads. I had a pretty good flow of searching my next symbol, marking those complete, then marking my parked thread, repeat. The app also provides statistics of hours worked on, stitches completed, and overall % of chart completed.

Here’s the progress I made this week. 454 stitches and 22% complete.

I know with the support of the SAL group I’ll accomplish a lot! If you are interested in joining our stitch along group, contact Avis below. We update our progress every 3 weeks and we each work on our own projects, at our own pace. We actually have two new members! Warm welcomes to Renee and Jenny 🙂 I look forward to seeing what they are working on and how the rest of the group is doing on their projects.

    • I know! I will try and get the most out of it for as long as possible. I personally don’t want to get bored of stitching it and i don’t want the group to get bored of seeing it. We shall see 🙂

    • Thank you so much! It was suppose to be a birthday gift for my mom, but I joke with her that it will be her retirement gift instead.

  1. This looks epic, thank goodnes for such a helpful app. It sounds as though it will save lots of time. Even though we’ve not got much of the bird, I have a feeling it will be stunning!

  2. I have so much to say! This is going to look stunning! You must have so much patience to stitch all that background. And that app sounds really really helpful too!

    • Thank you! Yes, the app is making the process more enjoyable for sure. I think rotating it with my other wips will also help keep my interest in it.

    • You’re welcome and thank you so much! I think the progress I made with my last update was pretty good and hope to make the same stitch count goal, if not more!
