3 Quilts – Complete!

Warning, picture overload 🙂 …

I’m excited to announce that I have completed my three quilt commission! As you may know, I was commissioned to make three baby quilts for two boys and a girl.

Farm Animal Quilt for Jase

I found the farm animal fabric at a quilt show and decided to buy a yard with no pattern in mind. It’s such a great print with a boy-blue background and plenty of cute farm animals, Oink A Doodle Moo from Moda fabrics. The double 4-patch seemed the best way to use up large cuts of fabric. Noe by Erin McMorris for Free Spirit Fabric and some Moda Grunge were great accents. Originally I did not have borders, but the Grunge in winter white helped to separate all the busy prints and color. For the back and binding, I used a honeycomb print in a neutral color scheme by Kim Schaefer for Andover Fabrics. Leftover Noe fabric strips were used to help complete the back. I decided to mimic the geometric squares that are found throughout the farm animal fabrics into the free motion quilting that I used all over.

Dinosaur Quilt for Jude

I had a little trouble finding the dino prints, but finally came across this Disney print at Joann’s. I decided to keep it simple  with one print, one background, and one back/binding fabric. The teal fleece matched the mountains in the print perfectly. I used the Darcey quilt pattern by Villa Rosa Designs, which I plan to use again in the future. Straight line quilting was my choice of texture for the completed look.

Alphabet Quilt for Jolie

This quilt was a kit I found a quilt show that I couldn’t pass up. The fabrics had such a vintage appeal and the pattern really allowed the fabric to be the focus. The fabric line is called Sidewalks by October Afternoon for Riley Blake Designs. This line is used on the complete front and binding. For the back, I found a white and red floral print called Sweetness by Sandy Gervais for Moda Fabrics. I really had some fun with the free motion quilting. I added an echoing flower in the top and bottom border and a wishbone fmq within the thin borders. For the middle, I quilted a chevron design to keep the focus on the print and to keep the quilt soft.
