Scrappy Quilt Planning

There are two quilts from the book Sunday Morning Quilts by Amanda Jean Nyberg and Cheryl Arkison that I’ve been eager to make, but since I’m a bit of a newbie, I don’t have that many scraps. My collection is slowly growing and since I enjoy staying organized, I decided to start making the cuts I need for both these quilts and separating these specific scraps from the rest! It would be a great project to work on when I’m in between major projects.

Original quilts Gumdrops and Up, Up, and Away:

                               Gumdrops   up up and away

These fabric gumdrops are raw edged appliqued to the background fabric! I want to utilize all the true colors of candy gumdrops on this quilt with yellow, red, purple, orange, green, and blue scraps. The templates offered in the book reflect various sizes of gumdrops — so cute!

Up, Up, and Away utilizes the triangles trimmed off when sewing binding strips together, so clever 🙂 This quilt is refreshing and modern. This one will probably take me longer to get to since I’ll be collecting those binding scraps. Which is fine…many projects to complete now and into the future!

Adding this task to my 2015 goals…

    • The triangles are from binding. So from binding strips, it’s the joined corners trimmed past the 1/4″ seam allowance. It probably doesn’t matter too much on exact size as you can see they look varied in the quilt shown. The gumdrops are various sizes from templates in the book. Will have to measure and get back to you 🙂
