Flowering Cabbage

FloIMG_2743wering Cabbage, also known as ornamental cabbage, is an annual that shines in the cooler months. These low maintenance plants enjoy full sun and while they are edible, it’s best to leave these purely ornamental due to their bitter taste. I’ve always been a fan and decided to plant 3 of these near our home’s front entrance.

They have grown so fast! I planted them around 15″ apart as the tag mentioned a spread up to 18″ wide…I just couldn’t fathom they’d get that big. The little plants looked so lonely spaced so much.

This variety of flowering cabbage is called Osaka ‘Red’ and identified by its compact head and wavy edged leaves. The coloring is beautiful!

Here they are now, late December, 7″ wide:

I enjoy seeing little dew drops on the leaves in the cool mornings or after it rains ❤
